Hocking Hills State Park is Made up of 6 Different Regions
Old Man's
Cave -
From sheer
cliff ledges and huge rock formations to walkways dug
deep into sandstone and beautiful waterfalls. Old Man's Cave
is the most popular Hocking Hills State Park area for
visitors to explore.
Ash
Cave - The largest recess cave in
Ohio, Ash Cave got its name from the piles of ashes once
found and left behind from hundreds of years of Native
Americans and settlers using the cave as a place to rest.
Cedar
Falls - There was once a gristmill
above this renowned and much-photographed waterfall. The
massive Hemlock Trees lining the trail were once thought to
be cedars - hence the misleading name of Cedar Falls.
Conkle's Hollow - Has two trails-an
upper and lower trail at this region of the park. The upper
trail covers high cliffs and is not recommended for
children. The lower area of Conkle's Hollow has a
handicap-accessible trail and is more utilized by families.
Cantwell Cliffs - One of the more
remote areas of the park, Cantwell Cliffs has rugged cliff
edges and plenty of places to explore.
Rock House
- Once part of the
grounds for a larger hotel. Rockhouse was even said to be a
hide-out for thieves in the 1800's.
Look for small recesses in the
back wall of Rock House that were used as baking ovens for
Native Americans staying in the cave.
